It says the file permissions on your ~ .vscode extensions extensions.json file don't allow for vs code to modify the file when installing extensions. somehow the file permissions got changed. modify the file permissions so that other programs like vs code can write to the file.
Extensions View Broken Issue 67843 Microsoft Vscode Github Type: bug after vscode was updated to 1.96, all extensions could not be updated. after clicking the update button, the status of the extension was always "installing". this happened on both of my computers, so i guess it's not an environment problem. and i can see logs in "output" window showing:. Whenever i click update on any extension it says: failed to update {extension name}. at first when i first installed vs code installing extensions was going all right, now it doesn't even show info about them. Try to reboot your machine and directly open vs code and install the extension (in case the file is locked by other program process). besides, is there any permission limitation on your machine?. Vs code reports that extensions are updated, but that is not effective: repeating the command (seemingly) updates extensions again, and starting the gui definitely updates extensions. Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: no vs code version: 1.102.1 7adae6a arm64 os version: macos 15.5 steps to reproduce: install any extension open the terminal and paste in code list extensions | wc l && code. Go to extensions and update github copilot and github copilot chat to the latest version which is v1.350.1708 click on restart extension when asked for both extensions expected result: both extensions should not report any issues and github copilot can be enabled. actual result: both extensions show. Check for stable internet connection and firewall. try installing or updating extensions again, including the python extension.
