Once run off is clear and system is drained again, fill reservoir with straight, undiluted g12 coolant. this is because when you drain the system, you are only draining about half of the full capacity (as you will see you drain about a gallon out each time).

So as some of you might know, i've been working on fixing my a4 b6 cab. it's running great apart from a continuing issue of coolant loss through pressure. i lost coolant through an upper radiator hose which wasn't secured. but with that solved. I've seen several recent posts on this, and there doesnt seem to be an official diy on here. so here goes: this is the easiest and less messy way to do a complete coolant system flush (with heater core). I have been chasing a random cold start misfire. i wanted to see if any coolant was leaking into the combustion chambers. i had a couple options. bring the car to a mechanic. find a pressure test cap that would fit the audi expansion tank. or diy it. here is what i did. parts needed.

The correct coolant is important, not so much for the cooling capacity, but rather for the additives. the g12 and g13 coolants contain additives that protect engine parts; or they have an absence of additives that can damage engine parts. My newly purchased car over heated recently and i love my car (my 1st audi 2002 a4 quattro 1.8) so i went to the dealership to pickup the correct coolant for my car after reading this forum. it's g 12 a something or other, and it's a pinkish color in hue. The passive layer in the cooling system gradually becomes thinner and more porous and the engine coolant needs to be changed at more frequent intervals. using the wrong engine coolants can gradually lead to corrosion and damage to the water pump, radiator, radiator hoses and cylinder gasket. No problem, i bought a new one and 6 7 liters of g12evo ready mix from the dealers. i can just change the expansion tank and refill what i lose, but i thought now might be the time for a coolant flush since i'm in the neighbourhood already.
