Looking at the oppo's definition of format the mp4 is decoded as dolby digital plus 5.1 and the mkv as mlp 5.1. i guess the avr needs a dolby input format to be able to decode to atmos i can not find any setting in the oppo to solve this problem.

The schiit modi mb that i use sounds better then the oppo and it's around $400, i think. of course it's the individuals system that is ultimately to be evaluated rather than any single component. so often, outboard components sound better than the onboard ones, dacs, phono pre's what have you. I'd suggest sending the 93 off to oppo to get it repaired. i believe it's now a fixed cost of $119 or $129 for any repairs which includes parts and return shipping. oppo digital ultra hd blu ray disc players what disc formats are you playing with your 93? are you using a hard drive with music files connected to the 93?.
